Company Description:
Founded in 1981 Joe F. Lyman. He had been working with American Indian artists their education program and could see the potential for growing a business that would employ a number of people in our depressed local economy. The mission of Cedar Mesa Pottery is to gainfully employ as many people, predominantly American Indian people, as possible.
Products:
We produce American Indian Hand Painted pottery. Variety and selection are two of our strong points. We have faced a number of key challenges over the years and prevailed. One thing we have done in recent years is absorb the product lines of previous competitors. Difficult economic times had pushed them out of business. We seized on this opportunity to expand our selection. We were able to make agreements with former competitors to acquire their shapes and designs and pay them a royalty for a number of years. We now have over 60 different painting styles and dozens of shapes at various price points. Some of our designs are custom or regionally themed designs. While American Indian and Southwest are a big part of what we do we have a large selection of wildlife and scenery designs that do not have the Indian and Southwest feel.
Customers:
It is hard to define our ‘typical’ customer. We sell to gift shops of all sorts. Trading posts, airport and motel gift shops, card and gift stores, museum gift shops, national and state park concessionaires, drug stores even grocery stores and department stores and so on, from low end souvenir shops to high end exclusive gift shops and art galleries, from Mom and Pop shops to large corporate chains.
Although pottery is very fragile our foam-in-place packaging insures little to no breakage. If there is ever a problem give us a call.
