Kamibashi, a member of both MSA and the Fair Trade Federation, works with artisans in Thailand to create the quirky and whimsical characters of The String Doll Gang.  At 3" tall and attached to a keyring and lobster clip, each String Doll has a name and his or her own special power that is always positive and helpful. They are fun for the whole family and make the perfect gift for any occasion – we like to call them $10 pieces of art!

As of 2015, there are more than 180 different string dolls, including numerous characters for almost every kind of museum store.  We are happy to create custom characters for your special exhibitions or for sale year-round.  Recent museum-inspired designs include Moe the Woolly Mammoth, Long the Chinese Dragon, and Marie Curie.

Kamibashi was created by owners Kristen and Chris Daniels when they returned to the US after several years of teaching English at universities in Japan.  During their travels abroad, the Daniels discovered String Dolls in Northern Thailand and thought they would make perfect portable pieces of art for people who aren't afraid of being whimsical .  Burning with excitement to share what they found, Kamibashi was born when they returned to the U.S. and settled in Asheville, North Carolina.  Over ten years later, Kamibashi continues to spread the joy of  string dolls to stores all over the world,  making people laugh, have fun, and remember that life doesn’t always have to be so serious.
